A boiler replacement is an opportunity to rebuild the system around it. For this recent Top Shelf Plumbing & Heating installation, we replaced the existing oil-fired boiler with a new Peerless boiler and added a Peerless Partner PP-60 indirect water heater. The project brought the heating zones, domestic hot water, piping, circulators, and controls together in one organized installation.

The old system and the new installation
The before photo shows the original boiler, older circulators, and existing vertical piping. The new installation pairs a Peerless oil-fired boiler with a separate Partner PP-60 indirect tank. The original heating distribution remains part of the home; the new equipment and near-boiler piping connect it to the replacement system.
Two heating zones and a dedicated indirect zone
The installation uses separate circulators for two space-heating zones and the indirect water heater, managed through a Taco switching relay. Keeping the indirect on its own zone lets domestic hot-water demand be controlled separately from the room thermostats.
Piping and access matter as much as the equipment
The new layout includes copper distribution piping, an air separator, an expansion tank, and accessible isolation valves around the circulators. These are details homeowners may overlook when comparing boiler quotes, but they determine how practical the system will be to inspect, maintain, and repair.
