Thermal expansion is common

Water expands as it heats. In a closed plumbing system, that extra volume cannot push back toward the public main. Pressure rises until an expansion tank absorbs it or the relief valve discharges.

What should be checked

Incoming pressure, the pressure-reducing valve, expansion-tank sizing and charge, thermostat settings, discharge piping, and the relief valve all matter.

Why a new valve may leak again

If high pressure opened the original valve repeatedly, replacing it without correcting pressure can produce the same leak. Never cap or plug the discharge.
